Following recent changes to departmental responsibilities, the functions of the former Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts are transitioning to new departments. Work is underway to update departments’ websites.

Safe Haven Enterprise Visa

The Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) arrangements provide an opportunity for eligible people seeking asylum to progress to permanent residency by working and/or studying in regional areas.

The Australian Government is responsible for immigration decisions, including the granting of SHEVs. The Queensland Government has worked with the Australian Government to implement the SHEV arrangements in Queensland.

For the purpose of SHEV arrangements, 'regional' includes all postcodes in Queensland other than Brisbane and Gold Coast City Council postcodes. The Department of Home Affairs website has more information, including details of SHEV pathway requirements and a list of eligible postcodes.

Our human rights commitment

We will respect, protect and promote human rights within our decision-making and actions.
