Pride in our Communities 2024-2032

Pride in our Communities (PDF, 6.7 MB) (DOCX, 1.8 MB) is the Queensland Government's first strategy for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, plus (LGBTQIA+) communities.

It will guide government action until 2032, towards our vision that LGBTQIA+ communities are connected, celebrated, safe and supported to live authentically and thrive.

The strategy recognises that diverse LGBTQIA+ communities across our state collectively make a contribution to Queensland being the inclusive, cohesive, resilient, supported, and liveable place that it is.

Pride in our Communities outlines the unified approach the Queensland Government is taking in improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ people. Pride in our Communities is government's commitment to every LGBTQIA+ Queenslander and to creating a vibrant Queensland where everyone belongs.

LGBTQIA+ voices helped shape the strategy though the largest program of LGBTQIA+ community engagement undertaken in the history of our state.

Through Pride in our Communities, government action is focused in three key impact areas where we know real and meaningful change can be achieved for LGBTQIA+ communities in Queensland.

Inclusive culture

The journey towards a Queensland where LGBTQIA+ people are able to live authentically and thrive begins with a cultural transformation; to create safety and understanding across all our regions. This change will bring benefits for all Queenslanders. We will play an influential role by role modelling inclusion and celebrating the diversity of LGBTQIA+ people.

By amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices and celebrating and uplifting LGBTQIA+ events and networks, we will ensure that the Queensland Government is contributing to the support of LGBTQIA+ communities and our public promotions are reflective of the lived experiences and needs of Queensland's LGBTQIA+ communities.

Stronger communities and connections

Ensuring social inclusion for LGBTQIA+ people and instilling a sense of belonging is about helping all LGBTQIA+ people to participate in their communities of choice, as well as ensuring Queensland's communities are inclusive and supportive of LGBTQIA+ people.

Pride in our Communities will help to build critical connections and support to bring Queensland's LGBTQIA+ communities together and promote social inclusion for LGBTQIA+ people to live authentically.

Responsive, inclusive and accessible services

The Queensland Government is committed to making its services welcoming and responsive to the needs of LGBTQIA+ people.

Pride in our Communities provides a plan for reducing barriers for LGBTQIA+ people to access the services they need and ensuring LGBTQIA+ people know where to go to access services.

Through Pride in our Communities, we are committed to ensuring accessible health services, housing and accommodation, educational programs, and resources are tailored to the specific needs of LGBTQIA+ people.

We will also be focussed on supporting LGBTQIA+ people in regional and remote Queensland to access the services they need.

Cultural acknowledgement

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors—our First Nations peoples—give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations towards creating a better Queensland.

Our human rights commitment

We will respect, protect and promote human rights within our decision-making and actions.
