Community co-design journeys
Story of change: Local Thriving Communities Forum: Cairns, 16 May 2019
The Cairns LTC Forum marked the start of the co-design journey between remote and discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the Queensland Government.
Community representatives from all remote and discrete communities were invited to attend the LTC Forum and 60 community representatives were able to participate in the event.
The key insights from the LTC Forum were:
- communities want a greater say in the design and delivery of services
- communities do not need government to tell them what to do
- communities view government as an enabler.
Participants expressed concern about whether the momentum for change will continue but are encouraged by the government action to date.
Doing things differently — what is graphic harvesting?
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships uses 'graphic harvesting' to capture key insights in real time from conversations. The graphic harvest was developed during the Cairns Forum and will be shared and tested with other communities, community leaders and stakeholders. Graphic harvesting is a key tool in co-designing engagement and activities.
